First person shooters and SRPG’s (strategy role-playing game) I believe are the best videogame genres due to maximum replayablilty. When people think SRPG Final Fantasy Tactics usually comes up. FFT is a great game with at least 300 missions, dozens of character classes and will allow you to clock in over 100 hours of gameplay. But one game blows away FFT in terms of replayablilty, missions, classes and the most important, customization and that is Disgaea.
Disgaea in my eyes is basically FFT on steroids without the negative side effects. Disgaea is a grid-based SRPG that pits you against various enemies with a ten-man party. Character classes range from your basic sword wielding warrior to a super-saiyan looking Chaos Soldier.
Customization is Disgaea’s middle name, everything is able to level up in Disgaea. Weapon mastery levels up giving some weapons more range. Even your basic everyday items (potions, even cell phones) can be leveled up via the item world. The best part of leveling up is the fact that characters can level all the way to Level 9,999 (no joke).
The replayablilty in this game is out of this world. After you beat the main story in the game you can start over with the same characters, with your items and levels still intact from the last game. After unlocking all the missions in the main story you have the opportunity to unlock a harder version of the game called “the Dark World” which makes enemies a lot stronger still providing a level of difficulty to keep gamers entertained. If you get good enough to get through most of the Dark World your next goal is to collect the 12 treasure maps (which is an extremely daunting task, but it is possible I’ve done it) and unlock the uber-hard “Land of Carnage” which makes enemies 221 times stronger the they were in the original story (example enemies that were Level One in the original story will be Level 221 in the Land of Carnage). Plus the Dark World exists in the Land of Carnage making enemies even stronger. So in turn Disgaea should keep any RPG fan entertained for years on end. I myself have knocked out 150 hours of gameplay and I’m nowhere close to where I want to be in the game (my highest Level is 169). With unlimited gameplay, a deep story, good voice acting and tons of unlockables Disgaea is the best game no one knows about.
Tons of Unlockables
Unlimited Replayablilty
Unlimited amount of difficulty
Unlimited Customization
For a PS2 and PS3 game the graphics look like it could be a PS1 game
Sometimes you will need to grind it out in order to catch up characters
The game can be confusing for first timers with so customization
Gameplay: 5
Graphics: 3
